Item details
This Hare and Grapes design is inspired by the weavings of Coptic Egypt.
I have added a geometric border picking out the main colour themes of jade green, red and black.
The Hare has a curly tail and nestles in the vines. He is almost entirely sewn in the black with ivory outline and red high lights, reminding me of a line print.
It makes a striking bag front or cushion, can be a wall hanging or framed picture.
I used the extra wool to make tassels.
I was inspired by an illustration of a Coptic Egyptian weaving of this little hare. I was interested in the details achieved in only black and cream. It struck me that the design was built up like a lino print with the shapes outlined by the background colour. Of course, I couldn't have ony two colours!
This design would look equally well in a traditional or contemporary setting. Using only a few shades, this design would be suitable for any level of experience.
Sewn using Victorian cross stitch, no need for a frame.
