In 2005, I was approached by Traquair House to create a collection of tapestry kneelers. My brief was to look around the House and choose images and embroidery to inspire new designs.
 The Autumn Goddess was inspired by the Ceiling Painting depicting a fertility goddess in the Upper Drawing Room at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders.
 This design is one of a set of four which also includes Goddess designs for the other seasons of Summer, Autumn and Spring. 
Further details were inspired by the amazing embroideries on display at Traquair House including Stuart Petit Point and Jacobean slips. 
The complete Traquair House Chapel Needlework Collection is on view in the chapel and was embroidered by community stitchers to celebrate the 900th anniversary of Traquair House. 
Traquair House is a uniquely wonderful place to visit, once there, you will fall in love! 
The design is sewn dramatically in rich colours on a black background with rich green swirls. 
The Goddess Designs all have season relevant flora and fauna. Winter has robins perching in amongst the winter foliage and snowflakes in the background of frosty blue. Summer has lots of flowers, butterflies and a few birds inspired by embroideries of a chaffinch and a woodpecker and Autumn has all the dramatic colours of Autumn. Spring has a background of primrose yellow and a lamb and rabbit nestle at her frondy feet.
The Goddess' features are sewn on at the end with black embroidery thread. 
This design and would be enjoyed by all levels of experience. 
Sewn using Victorian cross stitch, no need for a frame.
