Marigolds Tapestry Cushion Kit by Carol Anne Long for Animal Fayre Designer Tapestry kits.

In 2005, I was approached by Traquair House to create a collection of tapestry kneelers. My brief was to look around the House and choose images and embroidery to inspire new designs.

The Marigolds design was inspired by the many fantastic embroideries in the Traquair House Collection. They are thought to be inspired by woodblock prints contemporary to the Stuart Period. There is a cornucopia of fruits as well as the indigenous and exotic flowers and animals. I have been inspired to include many of these in my Traquair designs.

The complete Traquair House Chapel Needlework Collection is on view in the chapel and was embroidered by community stitchers to celebrate the 900th anniversary of Traquair House. You can see a photo of the chapel in the gallery.

The design is sewn dramatically in vibrant colours on a bright and dark green striped background and would be enjoyed by the novice and experienced stitcher.

Sewn using Victorian cross stitch, no need for a frame.
